Animals Formed in Captivity

These hybrids were created in captivity. Humans would force two species to mate to create these hybrids. Some of the hybrids can survive in the wild while some cannot.

Why would humans do this?

To Make Money

The only reason that these creatures exist is to make money. A lot of people will pay money to see them.

Examples:

  • Liger/Tigon

  • Wholphin

  • Leopan

To improve the animals

Some hybrids were made by humans to improve them. These new hybrids might be more sturdier.  They produce better products, for example better meat with lower cholestorl in the case of Beefalo. These hybrids might also survive in the wild.

Examples:

  • Beefalo

  • Zorse

  • Zonkey

Animals Formed in the Wild

These hybrids were created in the wild. This happened out of the need to survive. This was also  caused by human interaction. Either by hunting or taking away their natural resources.

Examples:

  • Coywolf

  • Grolar/ Pizzly Bear

  • Cuban American Crocodile

  • Dingo-Dog Hybrid

Tigon

Tigon

They are a cross of a male tiger and a female lion. These creatures were formed in captivity. They are huge, however they would never be able to survive in the wild.

Cuban-American Crocodile

Cuban-American Crocodile

This crocodile is a hybrid between an american crocodile and a cuban crocodile. By these two species of crocodile mating, the cuban crocidle faces massive threats of extinction.

Dingo-Hybrid

Dingo-Hybrid

Pure dingoes are now very rare in Australia. These dingoes are crosses between wild dogs. Farmers are concerned that these new species will be more aggressive to their livestock. However they are better adapted. History: The original dingo ancestors arrived in Australia from Indonesia 4000-5000 years ago.

Beefalo

Beefalo

The beefalo is the offspring of domestic cattle and the american bison. This was created to bring together the best of the both animals for beef production, and it did. Beefalo meat is lower in fat and in cholesterol. They also bring less damage to grazing land than cattle.

Coywolf

Coywolf

The coy-wolf is a coyote crossed with a wolf. This creature was formed in the 1920's. It is a highly adaptable creature.

Grolar Bear

Grolar Bear

This creature is the offspring of a grizzly and polar bear. It occurs naturally in the wild. The theory is that polar bears and grizzly bears were forced to mate due to global warming.

Zonkey

Zonkey

The Zonkey is a result of crossbreeding a male zebra and a female donkey. Zonkey's can actually be found living in the wild.

Zorse

Zorse

The Zorse is the result of crossbreeding a male zebra and a female horse. This creature is created because of human interactions. The Zorse is sturdy and is resistant to pests and diseases that would most likely harm a horse.

Wholphin

Wholphin

This mix between a false killer whale and a bottlenose dolphin is extremely rare. There are two in captivity in Hawaii's sea world.

Leopan

Leopan

This is the cross between a lion and a leopard. They existed in Japan in the late fifties and sixties. This creature would not occur naturally in the wild.
